This was my family’s third year visiting Brighton Dam Azalea Garden in bloom. I look forward to the flower-filled tradition every year.
This azalea paradise is hiding in Montgomery County’s Brookeville, Maryland. When people think of Montgomery County, they likely picture the city, which is why this hidden gem is a welcome contrast. Over 22,000 azalea plants cover this 5-acre plot of land nestled next to the water. The majority of azaleas are pink and white, with a rare purple, red, and even yellow scattered throughout.

On the grounds, there’s also a gazebo with a picture-perfect view of the water. Across the street and down the hill are picnic tables, a playground, and a stream. My daughter was obsessed with spotting teeny-tiny clams in the water.

Brighton Dam Azalea Garden is usually at peak bloom around the end of April to early May. Visit soon to see the most gorgeous azaleas in Maryland for yourself.
TIPS:
- This place is PACKED during peak weekends, with limited parking available. Arrive early in the day or during a weekday if possible.
- NO pets are allowed. Leave your dog at home to avoid disappointment upon arrival.
- The picnic tables down the hill are perfect for an outdoor picnic. Bring food and snacks while enjoying the scenery.
